The College of Charleston took top honors at the 7th annual Jesters Southeastern College Team Invitational in Atlanta, GA, January 17-19.

CofC beat Northwestern 5-4 in the last match of the tournament Sunday afternoon. The two teams were undefeated in their other matches.

In other highlights, Vanderbilt beat Sewanee 6-3 for the unofficial Tennessee state championship. North Carolina beat Duke 5-3 for supremacy in the state of North Carolina.

It was a full weekend of college squash. Most of the six CSA teams played the other five CSA opponents. In addition, most teams played exhibition matches against Westminster, an Atlanta college preparatory school, and a developmental team from Emory University.

The event also featured a women’s exhibition match between a combined team of players from the visiting colleges and the women’s team from Westminster. Tournament organizers noted that the match was meant as a first step to a separate Women's competition in the future.

"The Jesters Club is very pleased to be able to participate in this Atlanta round robin as part of our engagement in intercollegiate squash nationally. Regional events like Atlanta provide a venue for squash teams outside of the Boston-Philadelphia corridor to play each other in a cost-effective manner and make it possible for many of these teams to qualify for the Nationals in February ", said Bob Burton of The Jesters Club.

The Jesters sponsor a series of collegiate tournaments throughout the country each year, featuring club and emerging CSA teams.

The Atlanta event was organized by Southeast Squash, the regional squash association. It was hosted by Midtown Athletic Club and Westminster Schools.

Next year's tournament will be held once again during the Martin Luther King weekend, January 16-18, 2015. The field will be expanded to at least eight CSA teams.
